About This Professorial Hangout of Mine...

I've been teaching group art classes through my local art league for several years now, and drawing/painting/designing for far longer than that. Basically put, I started out as a bit of a recognized child prodigy, having begun drawing at the age of three and never stopped. I won an obscene amount of holiday coloring contests as a child, was illustrating concert and theatre programs before the age of ten, and by the end of 8th grade had my classmates commissioning artwork and begging portrait sketches off me. High school...let's not even go there, save to say that people definitely knew me for my art and remember me for it still.

Now, I did not spring into life a fully-developed artist -- no one does. Regardless of one's innate talent and family tendencies, no one starts out perfect in any expressive field, let alone a representational one...and also, "perfect" is a troublesome word for skills that are constantly being revisited and refined. I've examined closely my own evolution as an artist, and I've gleaned a fair amount of both commonsense and uncommonsense knowledge as to how people see and think and try to translate what they think they are seeing. So this is where I'm starting to share what I know in a general way, outside of and around the classroom and the studio.

[I hope this turns into more than just a pro bono blog, as meanwhile I am hoping to expand my teaching both in-person and online -- keep watching for updates on the latter especially, as it does require some contrivance without the structure of a formal school to support my technical needs.]
